‘When They Tell You’ disclosure guide film

In October 2025, we were commissioned by Louise Shaw – Involvement Coordinator for Manchester Action on Street Health - to produce a short film to inform professionals on how to offer trauma-informed experiences of disclosures of sexual harm.

The film was to accompany a guide -  ‘When They Tell You’, developed by the Manchester Trauma and Sexual Violence Network with direct input from 86 adult survivors and 71 professionals across Greater Manchester.

It provides practical tools, language and guidance to support professionals in responding to disclosures in ways that are empathetic, safe and trauma-responsive for both the person sharing and the person listening.

The film was released in September 2026.

Jon and Claire have been fantastic to worth with, patient, helpful and guiding us through the animation process (something I don't think any of us had been part of before!). They have supported us to make decisions and changes (something we did quite a bit of 🤦‍♀️!) and going above and beyond by negotiating a fixed price for the voiceover and using their friends and family voices to help us keep the costs within our budget!
